‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Set Turns NYC Sidewalk Into a Runway for Fans

NEW YORK, July 28, 2025 – On a sweltering Wednesday afternoon in midtown Manhattan, two tourists approached the Dior store, hoping for a luxury shopping break on their vacation. But before they could cross the threshold, a clipboard-wielding woman stopped them cold: “Sorry, the store is closed until next week.”

There was no online notice, no sign in the window — just the usual New York bustle. But for anyone paying attention, the signs were all there: production assistants with walkie-talkies, paparazzi with high-powered lenses, a makeshift video village nearby, and a line of black director’s chairs, one reading “Andy.”

Yes, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is filming — and it has the city buzzing.

Hollywood comes to Manhattan (again)

The sequel to the beloved 2006 fashion comedy has been filming across New York, and today’s shoot was centered inside the Dior boutique — a perfect refuge for its sharply dressed stars during a summer heatwave. On set were Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, although you wouldn’t know it from the outside: the shop windows were covered top-to-bottom in crumpled brown paper, blocking any view inside.

Still, that didn’t stop at least 60 onlookers from lining the shady side of the sidewalk across 57th Street, phones raised in hopes of catching a glimpse of Miranda Priestly herself.

Fans beat the heat for fashion royalty

Spotting stars proved tough especially with the action unfolding across a six-lane avenue teeming with yellow cabs, trucks, and the occasional reckless cyclist. But for many fans, just being near the action was worth the trip.

Diana Nassar, a Manhattan-based Prime Video employee, took her lunch break to get closer to the shoot. After missing the crew earlier in the week, she found out the latest location thanks to Instagram updates and a friendly crew member who not only redirected her but also handed her a water bottle to beat the heat.

“I just want to see something in action,” she said. “If a movie is filming in my city, I’ll absolutely show up.”

Disney’s 20th Century Studios, which is producing the sequel, is keeping details under wraps. But eagle-eyed fans have been spotting clues — like street notices under the name “Cerulean”, a clever nod to Miranda’s iconic monologue about the color blue.

Some fans flew across the world literally

Others have come from even farther. Alison Stewart, a high school teacher from Scotland, was on a film-location-themed U.S. tour with her sister, Sarah McManus. They had just visited Forks, Washington (home of Twilight) before landing in New York only to discover that Devil Wears Prada 2 was filming at the exact time of their layover.

“We saw Meryl Streep step out of a car, and nobody expected her to be there,” Stewart said, wearing a Twilight-inspired T-shirt.
“It was really exciting.”

The sisters arrived at 11 a.m. and planned to stay until their 6:30 p.m. flight.

“You don’t realize how long it takes to shoot one scene,” McManus added, marveling at the production pace.

Style is the main event

For some, it’s all about the fashion. Amal Matmati, a software engineer, braved the heat to get a sneak peek at what the film’s costume department had in store.

“I want to see the looks,” she said. “The fashion, the detail, the costumes — all of it.”

So far, paparazzi have captured glimpses of the new wardrobe, with Hathaway, Streep, and Blunt already turning heads in street-styled elegance. Still, Matmati insists the sneak peeks won’t ruin anything:

“It’s all out of context. It makes me more curious to understand what’s happening in those scenes — it just builds the anticipation.”

But is it worth nearly fainting for?

With temperatures pushing 100 degrees, one might wonder: is it worth risking heatstroke for a three-second glimpse of Meryl Streep getting into a town car?

We imagine Miranda Priestly might arch an eyebrow and answer with a chilling, “Don’t be ridiculous.
